Every piece here starts with meros — Uzbek for inheritance — cut from handwoven atlas ikat silk and carried from Uzbekistan into a small studio in New Jersey.
The Craft
Every color starts as a knot
Abrbandi, the resist-dye process behind atlas ikat, binds and dyes each thread before it's ever woven — that's where the feathered edge of color comes from.

Bind
Threads are bound in tight sections that will resist the dye.

Dye
Each bound section passes through a sequence of dye baths.

Weave
The dyed threads are woven, and the pattern finally appears.
